Seasonal Summer Staff

Each member of the summer infirmary staff works together as part of a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, doctors, dietary staff and medical volunteers, as well as program and residential life staff, to provide excellent care to our campers. The infirmary team provides a safe and fun Camp experience for all campers, providing holistic and camper-centered care, tailored to each camper's needs.
Unit Nurse
Unit Nurses serve as the backbone of the care provided in our traditional summer program. Unit Nurses work as a team, along with the rest of our infirmary staff, to manage both scheduled and walk-in needs of campers, dispense medications, chart in the electronic medical record and triage needs. As part of the infirmary team, the Unit Nurse will help assess the safety of Camp programs and communicate clearly and effectively with the Camp community. Unit Nurses steward medical volunteers through onboarding and support to ensure they are able to serve as valued members of the Infirmary Team. Unit Nurses are also an integral part of our emergency response team. There are five Unit Nurse positions available for the 2025 summer program.

Resource Nurse
The Resource Nurse will serve as the “go-to” clinical leader for the seasonal medical team staff and volunteers through support of clinical problem solving, clinical decision-making and critical thinking through a side-bv-side peer support model. They will have a global view of nursing needs at Camp for each session, providing support to the volunteer and staff nursing team. The Resource Nurse will step into the unit nurse role, as needed for absence or illness. This position is designed for someone with several years of applicable nursing experience and strong leadership skills.

Night Nurse
The Night Nurse is responsible for nursing care in the overnight hours, providing care to campers scheduled to sleep in our "Moose Lodge"(housing designated for campers that require overnight nursing care). The Night Nurse also serves as "first call and triage" for any walk-in or urgent needs overnight, both for campers, volunteers and staff. Our Infirmary-based Moose Lodge typically houses 3 - 4 campers per session, who have scheduled overnight care needs. The Night Nurse will also care for any campers admitted to the infirmary for acute needs in the overnight hours. This position requires strong communication, critical thinking, assessment and technical nursing skills. There is one nurse position available for the 2025 summer program.

Dietary Support
Dietary Support staff will provide nutritious meals to campers with severe allergies and medical dietary needs. Diagnoses served include metabolic and mitochondrial disorders, PKU, diabetes, and multiple severe food allergies. Our year-round Registered Dietitian (RD) Consultant will provide guidance and will provide meal planning for certain campers. The dietary support staff will plan, cook and provide meals and snacks for campers with dietary needs with support from our general kitchen staff and RD, as needed. The dietary support staff will also act as a resource for summer Camp program areas that include food or snacks. There are two Dietary Support positions available for the 2025 summer program.

AYA Program Nurse
Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) Program Nurses will support the AYA programs, including the Hero’s Journey® and Champion’s Journey Programs. The AYA Nurses will be the first point of contact and primary nursing care team for participants in the AYA Program in the daytime and overnight hours. AYA Nurses work in the wilderness and traditional Camp environment to manage all nursing care needs of program participants, to include dispensing medications, charting in our electronic medical record and triaging needs. AYA Nurses live alongside program participants in the wilderness environment (tents, yurts, cooking fireside) for the duration of the Hero’s Journey® program. The Champions Journey program provides traditional camp accommodations with temperature-controlled sleeping quarters and meals provided in Camp’s Dining Hall. The AYA Nurses ensure safe and appropriate engagement for all program participants through closely collaborating with Camp’s Program Team and Medical Leadership Team. The AYA Nurse provides onboarding and support for new medical volunteers each Camp session to serve as valued members of the Medical Team. Please note: AYA Program Nurse has two contract options. Option 1 is 6.5 weeks and works exclusively with the Hero’s Journey Program. Option 2 is an 8.5 week contract and works with Hero’s and Champions Journey Programming.

Per Diem Nurse
Per Diem Nurses complement the residential nursing team within our traditional summer program. The Nurses work as a team, along with the rest of our infirmary staff, to manage both scheduled and walk-in needs of campers, dispense medications, chart in the electronic medical record and triage needs. Per Diem Nurses are also an integral part of our emergency response team. There are several per diem positions available for the 2025 summer program.
